Koteshwar Hydro Electric Project (400 MW) of THDC India Limited (THDCIL) has won the prestigious '5th CIDC Vishwakarma Award-2013' in the category of 'Achievement Award for Best Construction Project' among more than 70 submissions from all sectors. Sh. D.K. Govil, General Manager (Project Head Tehri-Koteshwar HEP), along with other senior officers of THDCIL received the award on 07.03.2013 (late evening hours) in a grandeur ceremony held at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The award was given by Secretary, Department of Public Enterprise, Govt. of India, Sh. O P Rawat.
This award has been conferred in recognition of excellence and outstanding performance of THDCIL in implementing Koteshwar HEP and its valuable contribution that has significantly enriched the construction domain and promoting best practices within the Indian Construction Industry.
Construction Industry Development Council (CIDC), an apex organization to take up and promote activities for the development of Indian Construction Industry, has been jointly set up by Planning Commission, Govt. of India and Indian Construction Industry.
CIDC Vishwakarma Awards are an embodiment of encouraging truly successful efforts from individuals and organizations that have made a mark on the present Indian Construction Industry in terms of delivering better outputs, processes and creating higher benchmarks for construction industry to help in nation building. These awards are based on the judgment of an eminent jury of international repute consisting of distinguished & accomplished personalities among industry leaders, policy-makers, academicians, and project management champions headed by Dr. Pranab Sen, Chairman, National Statistical Commission, Govt. of India.
Koteshwar is the fastest implemented Hydro Project of nation in its category by starting works almost from scratch in April, 2007 to commissioning of two units in Mar-2011. Execution of Koteshwar HEP is paradigm of sheer commitment, exemplary dedication, innovation in construction methodology and proficient project management. Koteshwar Hydro Electric Project (400MW) also won the prestigious “PMI India 2012 Best Project of the Year Award” in Sep-12 in the category of “Best Project of the year- Long duration (more than 3 years)”.
Koteshwar HEP is now generating power at its design installed capacity of 400 MW. Annual energy generation from this project is 1155 Million Units at 90% water availability. Project has already earned Rs 405 Cr in the year 2011-12 and is poised to earn Rs 530 Cr in the year 2012-13. Water released from Tehri Dam is regulated from Koteshwar Dam for Irrigation.
THDCIL is one of the premier hydro power generators in the country with installed capacity of 1400 MW with commissioning of Tehri & Koteshwar Dam to its credit and is bestowed with 'Mini Ratna-Category-I & Schedule 'A' Status.
